Gulshan Singh / Buxar. There is a shop named Basant Mishthan Bhandar located at the district headquarters at Ramrekha Ghat, the Peda here is so famous that its demand is not only in the country but also abroad across the seven seas. We are not saying this, but Peda shopkeeper Dilip Kumar is saying this. According to Dilip, due to the taste and quality, the Peda here is packed and sent to foreign countries.

He told that the specialty of Peda is that it cannot spoil for 20 days, it is fully guaranteed. On an average up to 1 quintal is sold everyday. The special thing is that this Peda made in a small shop has reached many parts of the country including UP-Bihar due to its excellent taste. Actually, such people of Buxar who go abroad for employment, they definitely take this tree with them. At the same time, the local people also send Peda to their relatives.

This shop is running since 1959
Dilip Kumar, the chief artisan of the shop, says that this shop is ancestral. It was first done by his grandfather Late. Basant Halwai started in 1959. This shop has been feeding pure Peda to the people since four generations. He told that after grandfather, his father ran this shop. After this, now he himself is handling the shop. Children are also helping in this work. Milk, cardamom and sugar are needed to make Peda.

This is how peda is prepared
Dilip Kumar told that from the beginning he has been buying milk from a special shop, from which he prepares peda from pure milk. He told that buying cow’s milk for Rs.35 per liter and buffalo’s milk for Rs.45 per liter, Peda is made. Everyday at 11 o’clock we start cooking milk on low flame, then by 1 o’clock the Peda is ready. Once 30 liters of milk is offered in a pan on the stove, then 11 to 12 kg of milk is lost for Peda. In which peda is prepared by adding sugar.

500 rupees profit is available on each pan
Dilip Kumar told that three other family members also support in this work. Peda is sold at the shop in the form of retail and wholesale. He told that the rate per kg is Rs 400, while a single piece of peda costs Rs 10. About 40 pedas climb in one kilo. Overall, there is a saving of Rs.500 on Peda made from one pan of khova. However, quality was never compromised for the sake of profits. Due to which the trust of the customers has been maintained for 64 years.
